Modern packaging lines move fast, and every machine depends on compressed air. Form-fill-seal units, cartoners, labellers, cappers, palletisers and air knives all need stable pressure and clean, dry air to hold throughput and product quality.
Why stability matters
Packaging machines are sensitive to pressure drop. A brief dip during peak demand causes mis-seals, misfeeds and jams that halt the line. A receiver tank sized to buffer peak demand, together with a correctly sized compressor and dryers, keeps pressure within the narrow band the machines expect.
Air quality by contact level
- Direct product contact — oil-free, dried air for food and pharmaceutical packaging
- Machine actuation — dried, filtered air for cylinders and vacuum systems
- Air knives and blow-off — clean, dry air to avoid contamination
Efficiency levers
Demand on packaging lines is stop-start, so variable speed compressors are especially effective. Combine them with leak management and pressure setpoint optimisation to cut energy cost while keeping the line running at full speed.
