A refurbished air compressor can cut capital cost substantially, but the saving must be weighed against warranty, efficiency and remaining life. The right choice depends on duty, budget and how much downtime risk the plant can accept.
New compressors
A new machine carries a full warranty, the latest efficiency and controls, and a known service history. For continuous production where downtime is expensive, the reliability and efficiency of new equipment usually justify the price.
Refurbished compressors
A quality refurbishment replaces wear parts and tests the machine, but it cannot restore a full design life. Refurbished equipment suits budget-limited projects, backup duty and non-critical applications, provided the refurbisher is reputable and offers a real warranty.
What to verify
Check the airend, motor and coolers, confirm the replacement of filters and oil, and ask for a test certificate with actual FAD and specific power. A cheap refurbishment with unknown hours can cost more in energy and repairs than a new machine.
