Compressor acoustic enclosures reduce the noise reaching operators and neighbours by containing and absorbing sound while keeping the machine cool. A well-designed enclosure balances acoustic performance with adequate airflow.
Design principles
- Acoustic absorption panels inside
- Vibration isolation of panels and machine
- Sealed cable and pipe entries
- Silenced ventilation openings
Ventilation
Cooling airflow must still pass through the enclosure without opening a direct sound path. Use baffled intake and exhaust silencers, and size the openings so the compressor does not overheat under full load.
Results
A good enclosure can cut overall noise by 10 to 20 dB(A), bringing a compressor room below workplace exposure limits. Combine it with anti-vibration mounts and flexible connections to stop structure-borne noise from travelling through the building.
