Waste-to-energy plants burn municipal or industrial waste to generate power, and compressed air supports combustion control, flue gas cleaning and instrumentation. Instrument air quality and reliability are critical to safe, continuous operation.
Key applications
- Instrumentation and control valves
- Soot blowing on the boiler
- Ash and residue handling
- Flue gas cleaning systems
Air quality
Instrument air must be dry, clean and oil-free to a defined dew point, so control valves and analysers operate without sticking or contamination. The standard is usually set by the boiler and turbine suppliers.
System design
Provide redundant oil-free compressors with drying and filtration, and size storage to cover changeover without pressure dips. Separate instrument air from utility air and monitor dew point continuously, because a wet instrument air system can trip the plant.
