Sugar mills use compressed air across juice extraction, purification, crystallisation and packaging. The processing environment is hot and humid, and where air contacts the product, it must meet food-safety standards.
Key applications
- Filter press and centrifuge operation
- Pneumatic conveying of raw and refined sugar
- Bag filling and sealing lines
- Control and valve actuation
- Cleaning and purging of equipment
Air quality
Air that contacts sugar must be oil-free and dry to prevent contamination and caking. Control air needs a low dew point for reliable instrument operation in the humid mill environment.
System design
Provide oil-free compression with drying and filtration, and separate the hygienic product air from general utility air. Redundancy matters, because a sugar mill runs continuously during the crushing season and cannot afford air interruptions.
