Salt production uses compressed air for drying, conveying, bagging and process control, in an environment that is both humid and highly corrosive. Equipment selection must account for salt spray, brine and dust to keep the air system reliable.
Key applications
- Fluid bed and rotary drying
- Pneumatic conveying of salt
- Bagging and palletising
- Control and instrumentation air
Environment
Salt is corrosive to steel and electrical connections, so choose corrosion-resistant coolers, coated panels and sealed controls. Intake air should be drawn from a clean location away from salt dust and brine mist.
System design
Provide dry, clean air for control and instrumentation, with generous filtration to protect valves from salt particles. Redundancy and frequent inspection of coolers and filters keep the plant running in the aggressive atmosphere.
