Cold storage and refrigeration facilities use compressed air for dock doors, defrost systems, control valves and maintenance tools. The sub-zero environment makes dry air critical, because moisture in the lines freezes and blocks small orifices.
Key applications
- High-speed door actuation
- Defrost and purge systems
- Refrigeration control valves
- Cleaning and maintenance tools
Why dry air matters
At freezer temperatures, any water vapour in the air condenses and freezes, blocking valves and damaging actuators. A low dew point, usually from an adsorption dryer, keeps the system operating reliably in sub-zero conditions.
System design
Use an adsorption dryer sized for the ambient, and route air lines where they cannot accumulate water. Fit drains at low points and insulate or trace lines that pass through cold zones. Redundancy keeps doors and controls working even during service.
