Aerospace manufacturing combines precision machining, composite layup, surface treatment and clean assembly, all of which demand high-quality compressed air. Contamination can compromise structural integrity or finish, so the air system is specified tightly.
Key applications
- Composite layup and curing autoclaves
- Precision machining and tool actuation
- Pressure and leak testing of components
- Cleanroom assembly and instrumentation
Air quality
Testing and clean assembly require very dry, oil-free air, typically ISO 8573-1 Class 1:2:1 or better with Class 0 oil. Adsorption dryers and point-of-use filtration are standard, and the air is monitored to protect sensitive processes.
System design
Provide redundant oil-free compression and drying, with stainless or treated pipework that does not shed particles. Document and validate the system, and hold stable pressure because test procedures depend on repeatable air supply.
