An air compressor generates vibration from the airend, motor and fans. Without proper isolation, that vibration shortens component life, loosens connections and travels through the building as structure-borne noise.
Foundation requirements
A level, rigid base supports the machine and keeps alignment. For large machines, a concrete pad sized to the weight and dynamic load prevents rocking. The foundation should be independent of thin floors that transmit vibration.
Isolation methods
- Anti-vibration pads or mounts under the machine
- Flexible hoses on the air outlet and inlet
- Flexible electrical and pipe connections
- Spring isolators for large or high-speed machines
Benefits
Correct isolation reduces noise in adjacent rooms, protects pipe joints from fatigue and extends bearing and motor life. It is a small installation cost that prevents expensive vibration-related failures later.
