The correct interval for changing an air compressor intake filter depends on the dust load in the environment more than on calendar time. A differential pressure indicator gives the most reliable signal that the filter needs attention.
Change signals
- High differential pressure indication
- Visible dust or damage
- Reduced airflow or pressure
- Manufacturer service schedule reached
Environment
A clean indoor room may allow thousands of hours between changes, while a dusty factory or outdoor site can clog a filter in weeks. Inspect more often where dust, pollen or construction activity is present, and use a heavier-duty intake element.
Practice
Record the hours run at each change so you can set a realistic local interval. Never tap or blow out a paper element to reuse it, and seal the intake housing correctly after replacement to stop unfiltered air bypassing the element.
