Modern agriculture uses compressed air in more places than expected: greenhouse ventilation and shading controls, irrigation valve actuation, pneumatic conveying of grain and feed, milking equipment, and workshop tools. The loads are often seasonal, so flexibility matters as much as capacity.
Common applications
- Greenhouse climate-control actuators and valves
- Pneumatic conveying of grain, feed and fertiliser
- Water treatment and aeration for irrigation systems
- Farm workshop tools and tyre inflation
Selection factors
Many farm loads are intermittent, so a receiver tank and a variable speed compressor avoid frequent start-stop cycles. For conveying, match the compressor to the conveying pressure, which is usually low pressure but high volume. Diesel portable units serve field and remote operations.
Efficiency
Size for the peak simultaneous demand and use a pressure setpoint no higher than needed. In dusty environments, fit heavy-duty intake filtration and keep coolers clean so the machine does not overheat during summer harvest work.
