Glass recycling plants use compressed air for optical sorting, cleaning and conveying of cullet in a dusty, abrasive environment. The air system must be robust, with heavy-duty filtration and protection from glass dust.
Key applications
- Optical sorter air ejection
- Cleaning and de-dusting stations
- Pneumatic conveying of fine cullet
- Control and actuation air
Environment
Glass dust is highly abrasive, so intake filtration must be heavy duty and coolers kept clean. The compressor and control panel need protection, and filters should be inspected frequently in this environment.
System design
Size for the continuous sorting and cleaning demand with a stable pressure supply and adequate receiver capacity. Use dry, clean air for the sorters to protect the high-speed ejection valves, and separate plant utility air from instrument air.
