Changing the oil and filters is the most important routine service on a screw air compressor. Doing it correctly protects the airend and keeps the machine within warranty, while a careless change introduces dirt and risks damage.
Before you start
- Isolate and lock out the electrical supply
- Depressurise the machine completely
- Gather the correct oil, filters and drain container
The procedure
Run the machine briefly to warm the oil so it drains fully, then isolate and depressurise. Drain the oil, replace the oil filter and air filter, refill with the correct grade and quantity, and check for leaks before restarting. Never overfill, because excess oil increases carryover.
After the change
Run the machine and check the oil level again after it settles, then record the hours and oil type in the maintenance log. Dispose of the used oil through an authorised route, and reset any service indicators.
